    Why Shri Krishna is blue?

    A beautiful boy who mischievously steals butter from a pot, and later a stunning youth who mesmerizes everyone with the sound of his flute. That is how we imagine Shri Krishna. Even sometimes we forget about his miracles and Leela, that one thing that makes him different from anyone else is his blue color skin tone.

    Drinking Putana's milk

    God Krishna’s evil uncle sends demoness Putana to kill Krishna. Putana came as a beautiful woman in Gokul and requested Maa Yashoda to breastfeed her little boy. In those days these are common things. Like other people ok Gokul, Yashoda too was fascinated by her beauty and allowed her to breastfeed Krishna. Putana’s breast is filled with intoxicant and she intends to kill Krishna. It is also believed that Putana’s milk itself was poison. God Krishna not only drank her poisonous milk but also sucked her life. it is believed that poison entered Krishna’s body and gave him a blue color.

    Subduing Kaliya

    Kaliya is a poisonous snake, that came in Yamuna. It is believed that four leagues of water around him mixed with poison. One day when Krishna playing with his friend their ball fell inside the river. Krishna jumped into a river to get their ball and thus found venomous Kaliya. At the bottom of the water, Kaliya wrapped himself around Krishna’s body but he turned into a huge shape that Kaliya had to release him. Later, Krishna danced on Kaliya’s head and beat him from his feet. Kaliya’s wife begged Krishna for mercy and Kaliya also released the greatness of the little kid. Krishna didn’t kill the Kaliya but asked him to leave the Yamuna and go to Ramanaka Dwipa. It is believed that the poison of Kaliya entered Krishna’s body while fighting and turned Shri Krishna blue.

    Birth from lord Vishnu’s hair

    It is believed that lord Vishnu positioned white hair and black hair in Devaki’s womb. From white hair, Balram was born and Shri Krishna was born from black. This gave him a blue or black complexion.
