This marks the victory of the Pandavas. Ghatotkacha’s son, Barbarik, owned arrows blessed by lord Shiva. Their arrows were special as they marked, saved, or destroyed enemies, making them very powerful. He took an oath that he would always fight for the weaker side of wars. Because of his oath, lord Krishna convinced him that joining any side would make it stronger and would continue until everyone died. To prevent this, lord Krishna asked the barbarian’s head to be sacrificed to purify the ground. This purification will be done by sacrificing the head of the bravest Kshatriya. In this way, Barbarik was the greatest Kshatriya alive, and this is how lord Krishna saved the Pandavas from losing the Battles.
