- Tying of Auspicious Mahalaxmi Sutra
To worship Mahalaxmi the Mahalaxmi Sutra is usually prepared. This is a thread containing sixteen knots. Later on, people pay their respect to it with vermilion powder and sandalwood powder. Then, devotees put this thread on their left wrists for sixteen days.
After sixteen days, it is dipped in any river or holy water. With this holy thread, they are shielded from any kind of hindrance that they may come across. Those who wear this thread around their left wrist say that Mahalaxmi will guard and protect them from negative energies too.
- Mahalaxmi vrat
The main observance of this festival is the Mahalaxmi Vrat. It is great, that one has to perform for sixteen days to pay homage to the goddess Laxmi. It is appropriate that people should observe different kinds of fasts in this auspicious period. They also listen to the Mahalakshmi Vrata Katha during this time, i.e., the tales associated with the festival of purifying bath to Laxmi.
If a person cannot observe a vrat for all sixteen days, then he or she can observe it for three days. Such three days are found in duration on the first, the eighth, and the sixteenth days of the same. In addition, the devotees offer a fast or Mahalaxmi vrat every day from sunrise to sunset. Human beings give arghya to the sun as they wake up from their slumber in the morning and mark the beginning of the fast.

- Kalash Pujan
Another vital activity of the Mahalaxmi festival is the Kalash Pujan or the Kalash sthapna or placing the Kalash. For this purpose, the people make a stand to place the Kalash on it. They burn lamps and candles around the idol as well as light incense sticks. Then they put water into the Kalash vessel and pour some coins into it too after. This water is generally water from holy rivers such as the Ganga.
Subsequently, they put coconut on the Kalash. In addition, with Kumkum individuals draw four lines on the coconut. These four lines reflect the nature of Chaturvedas, which is a Hindu scripture. Then the wife and husband tie a red string around the Kalash and place a swastika on it. In the end, they wrap the coconut using Mango or Betel leaves, place the Kalash on a red cloth, and then put Akshat on it.
